The Gold Coast is situated in South East Queensland, between the state's capital (Brisbane) and the New South Wales border. The coastal strip, which faces onto the Pacific Ocean, stretches for about fifty five kilometres and is blessed with very many long and sandy beaches. Agile and Golden Wallabies, which are quite tame around people, make their home here, but it is also not far from the busy suburb of Surfers Paradise, and from theme parks such as Sea World in nearby Southport, and Wet-n-Wild Water World in Oxenford.

Many visitors to Gold Coast stay in waterfront accommodation around Broadwater. This large body of water used to be a lagoon at the mouth of the Nerang River, but over time it has become open to the ocean through two channels, and is now estuarine (or tidal) waters. The beaches here are calmer and quieter than the surfing beaches on the Pacific. One place to stay here would be Bayview Beach in Biggera Waters.
