Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is located at Currumbin on Queensland's Gold Coast and has been a favourite family and tourism destination over 60 years. The Sanctuary was founded in 1947 by keen beekeeper and flower grower Alex Griffiths after he began feeding the Gold Coasts Rainbow Lorikeets in an effort to stop them feeding on his budding flowers. Today the sanctuary has grown to be home to hundreds of native Australian animals that live amongst the native bush settings and offers visitors the opportunity to see them up close in their natural environment.

In addition to the extensive Australian wildlife Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary also offers interactive displays and presentations set amidst its 27 hectares of Australian bush and rainforests and is internationally recognised as a world-leader in the preservation of Australian wildlife.

There are many attractions at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary including the popular Koala cuddling experience, kangaroos, crocodiles and many birds that can be hand fed daily.

The Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is open daily from 8am to 5pm and reopens at 7pm for the Wildnight Adventures. Please be sure to check opening hours on public holidays as times may vary. The sanctuary is closed on Christmas Day.

There are several eateries within the sanctuary including the Sanctuary Café, Koala Junction and the Sawrey Room for weddings and other special functions. Alex Griffiths gave the Sanctuary to Queensland in 1976 from where it became a National Trust of Queensland property.
